I adapted this rubric from the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Arts Program when introduced to them during my student teaching a decade ago.
These IB rubrics have changed dramatically over the years, but I think these simpler rating scales are just fine! I’ve adapted it for not only K-12 art classes but also university art education and liberal arts courses. The IB comprehensive approach to learning and assessment really impressed me.
When grading students, I often focused on Criteria D: Personal Engagement, as many of my students did not have much art prior to arriving in my classroom. I felt it was unfair to grade them solely on skills they simply didn’t possess.
Please adapt it to your needs! Enjoy!
